From the Desk of Mrs. Leonard – Computer Teacher

A Letter to Families about Computers

Computers are an important part of our curriculum. We are very excited to have computers as a learning tool for our students. Each week students are introduced to a computer skill in addition to learning educational concepts that will enhance the traditional classroom learning. Children:

1) Learn about the computer, its companion devices and their roles in education.

2) Learn beginning reading and math skills.

3) Acquire math skills and concepts such as counting and numerical relationships.

4) How to express themselves creatively.

5) Develop their fine motor skills.

6) Learn how to problem solve and begin to do research.

7) Have fun!!

Our students come to computer class very excited very ready to learn about technology. They develop a sense a pride in their individual accomplishments as they discover new ways to draw, count, read, and even play. As always students are very eager to bring their school life into your home. and sharing their experiences with you.

Students work at the computer individually or in pairs. This allows for the students to learn from one another and develop their social skills. Two of the most extraordinary gifts that God has given us are our eyes and our hands – which allow us to search all the wonders that God has for us to discover.

Technology is constantly changing  – just like your child. You can expose your child to “safe” technologies that exist in your home. Don’t be afraid to teach your child how to use a remote or the telephone. You are actually teaching an important “cause and effect” skill.  Teaching safe technology at home encourages learning and responsibility  – you’ll be so glad that you did!!
